A foundation wall with a drain & gutter system around the  
interior walls of your basement.  These systems drain through
a gutter type system to the sump pump, so it can be pumped
back outside again. This kind of system will not fix the
problem, just redirect the problem. You should always go to
the source of any problem to begin  repairs. Water will follow
the least resistance route, and with out the proper exterior
foundation seepage system and or a replacement of an old
system that is stopped up, or one that may not even be there,
it will come in.. A lot of older homes don't have  foundation
systems. NOTE all water will force its way in again & again.
Now to go one step more into it, the foundation sealants from
years ago were very poor compared to todays sheet sealants
with foam board protection.
